This is Callicarpa Americana, common name as beautyberry, which is a low height shrub with dense small berries through out winter. Berries are not for human consumption. Its purple berries have very nice winter interest.

This time I use temperature controlled aquarium heater to keep the water temperature at 24 C. There is a light right above the container for 8 hours a day. Normally from seed to first bloom will take 1-3 months if growing condition is good. This is a single, deep pink lotus. Its flower of mother plant looks like this…

It is very beautiful to look at really…but unfortunately the weight of ice coatings were too heavy to bare for many trees, the tree in the picture was completely down…many households lost their power and some slowly got back their power. I hope everyone can have their power back for warm holidays in their own home!

Chayote experiment 佛手瓜種植實驗（Sechium edule）
Chayote is a kind of vegetable vine. Its fruit and its tender green shoots are both good vegetables. It is very easy to grow and inexpensive to buy in grocery store/supermarket.
I am letting a chayote growing by the window, later will give soil to cover its roots. This experiment want to see how much progress will the growth be indoor. It is now clinging on the blind of window.
It can be grew this with the whole fruit 1/2 into soil /ground (with one seed inside ) or grow from plant stem cuttings. It is vine so it does require support.
佛手瓜（Sechium edule）是一種葫蘆科佛手瓜屬植物,又稱合掌瓜. 瓜和稱為龍鬚菜的嫩葉都是好蔬菜. 它非常容易栽種,在超級市場或果菜攤都有賣,也不貴. 這個實驗要看看在靠窗的室內的生長勢如何.
可以整個瓜1/2種到土中或用扦插法種植. 因為是爬藤類所以需要支撐物.

It grows 20-35 feet tall with a similar spread. Lots of small white flowers in spring and grow fruit in summer. Birds and small wild animals will consume its fruit.
它是薔薇科山楂屬的小型-中型樹. 成熟植株可達20-35呎(7公尺-12公呎)高及寬幅. 春天開滿白色小花,夏天結果,秋末果實成熟轉為橘紅色,橘紅小果實要到隔年初春時才會落果然後發新芽. 所以此樹有極大的冬景觀賞價值. 冬天戶外食物缺乏時,鳥類和野生的小動物會以此果充饑.
