Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) is a low mount groundcover with evergreen glossy foliage and bright edible red berries. 鹿蹄草是低矮的地被,有著常綠的葉與可食性紅色果實.

Cold hardy perennial/groundcover.  Evergreen glossy foliage with bright red marble sized edible berries which is very attractive!   Easy to grow.  Best growing in partial shade to full shade location in acidic, slightly moist but well drained soil.  Small pinkish white bell shaped flowers in spring.  Flowers attract bees, ripe berries attract birds and wildlife.  Ripe fruit tastes like tooth paste because in old days tooth paste manufacture chose this refreshing flavor!  But now tried the berries just feel that I am eating a “tooth paste" flavored berries!  USDA Zones:3-8.  Mature size:2″-6″(H) X 1′-1.5′(W).  Propagate by seeds or division.  Medicinal.  Bronze red foliage in fall.  Suitable for container indoors.  Excellent for woodland garden and alpine garden.

耐寒強健的多年生/地被植物.  有著光滑葉面的常綠葉片和彈珠大小鮮紅的可食性果實使得它極具觀賞價值!  容易栽種.  最好栽種在半日照到全蔭處的酸性土壤,土壤偏濕但仍需排水良好.  春開鈴狀粉紅色小花.  花頗吸引蜂類,果實成熟吸引鳥類及野生動物.  熟紅的果實嚐起來有"牙膏味"因為早期牙膏廠商用其清新的果味選作了當作牙膏的味道!  但現在嚐到果實反過來卻覺得是"牙膏味"頗為奇怪!  喜韓不耐熱.  成熟株高2-6吋,寬幅1-1.5呎.  繁殖以種子或分株的方式來進行.  藥用.  秋天時葉片為由綠轉紅銅色的美麗秋色.  適合室內盆植.  很適合用於林地型花園和高山型花園.
