Perennial flowering vine.  Native in US.  Purple flowers in summer and fall.  Followed by edible fruit.  USDA Zones:5-11.  Mature size:15′-30′(H/L) X 6′-8′(W).  Fast growing, could be invasive. Medicinal.  Some people use the leaves for tea, [2 tsp/cup]– it will lower high blood pressure almost instantly plus a good nights sleep.

美國西番蓮 是在美國東南方很普遍是大部份熱帶親戚的亞熱帶代表,果實可食多子且有益於野生動物. 如其他的同as屬的是一些蝴蝶的幼蟲食草. 耐寒又耐熱.  成熟株高/藤長15-30呎,寬幅6-8呎.  紫花從夏開到秋,花期很長.  生長勢很強.  有藥用價值.  葉片可泡茶一杯2小匙的量–能降血壓及安睡.

A type of delicious Asian beans. Best growing in full sun to partial shade location.  This perennial climber is native in New Guinea, it requires a support to cling on, likes hot and humid.  Fast growing.  Purple flowers then winged seed pods. All parts are edible!  The tender seed pods tastes like asparagus so it has other name “Asparagus pea".   Easy to grow.  Propagate by seeds.  USDA Zones:8-11.  Not cold tolerant so often be treated as annual.

亞洲品種的豆類. 喜全日照到半日照.  它是原生於新幾內亞的多年生草本爬藤,須有攀爬用的支架,喜溼熱的生長環境.  生長速度快.  開紫色花,花謝後結四稜的豆莢. 全株各部位均可以食用!   嫩豆莢口感比美蘆筍所以又名蘆筍豆.  容易栽種.  以種子來繁殖.  由於不耐寒常被當作一年生植物來栽種.

Easy to grow in full sun to partial shade location.  Like other varieties they are short, plant size: 15-20cm(H) X 7-15cm(W).  USDA Zones:5-8, but some information said cold hardier than that.  Good for mass planting and cut flower.

流蘇葡萄風信子是有點不一樣的葡萄風信子. 跟其它垂鈴狀的品種一樣好種,全日照到半日照的環境一般都能栽種.  成熟株高僅有15-20公分,寬幅為7-15公分.  耐寒性OK. 有資料說是相當耐寒.  適合區域性種植,可做為切花用.

Beautiful purple flowers, not small size. The flowers has unique fragrance. Easy to grow as tropical flowering vine, hardy. Best in full sun location. Fruit is orange colour and flesh is not as tasty as market fruit varieties but it is still edible. Winter hardiness to around -8C. One of the common Passiflora varities in Northern America.
生長快速,多花,強健,果皮為橘色,果肉可食用但味道不怎樣,無法跟市面售的百香果相較. 耐寒性高且抗病力強. 此品是北美常見的品種之一.

How to grow Rhododendron and mountain laurel from seeds

Rhododendron catawbiense ‘Roseum Elegans’ is blooming in spring.

Rhododendron seed pods open and release seeds with the wind in fall. 種莢秋天成熟後會打開隨風散播種子.

It is very easy to collect their seed pods to get seeds if you or your family have a plant in the garden. Their growth rate is slow so in garden centres or nurseries the price is high. Besides propagation of stem cuttings, propagate them from seeds you can get more. They are spring flowering shrubs, tolerant shade and evergreen through winter. They all like slightly acidic soil.

1.soil/medium must be well drained, use shallow container to sow seeds. If possible, sterilize the soil/medium first.

2.Keep soil moist but too wet. Sow seeds on the surface of soil. Do not cover the seeds. Leave the container where is partial shade. Seeds will germinate in 10-20 days. Will grow the first set of leaves in 8-10 weeks. They are easy to grow but slow, so be patient!

酒紅杜鵑(Rhododendron catawbiense ‘Roseum Elegans’)及山月桂屬的種子種植方法:

1.土用泥炭土和木屑/碎樹皮以1比1混合為播種用土. 用淺缽為苗盆.

2.基本上種子不可覆土,分散播下,要保濕但不可太濕有積水置於半日照涼爽處約10-20天會發芽,8-10週會長出本葉.
