Beautiful magenta/fuchsia flowers in spring! This deciduous flowering tree are often  use as root stock for grafting Japanese flowering cherry.  Actually it is nice by itself.  Easy to grow.  Best growing in full sun location.  Flowers attract bees, butterflies and birds.  Small edible fruit ripe to red.     USDA Zones:6-10. Mature size:25′(H)/(W).  Propagate by seeds, cuttings, layering and grafting.  Self sow freely.

蠻漂亮春開桃紅色小花! 它是常用來當嫁接日本櫻花的砧木.  其實本身也蠻漂亮的.  容易栽種.  最好栽種在全日照處.  春天開花時為頗吸引蜂蝶與鳥類的蜜源.  紅色的小熟果可以食用.  喜熱尚耐寒.  成熟株高可達25呎,寬幅亦同.  繁殖方式以種子,扦插,壓條,高壓或嫁接方式來進行.

Deciduous.  This flowering cherry has coppery shinning bark, pretty in winter, too!  Cute little white single flowers in spring.  Very easy to grow.  Best growing in full sun to partial shade location.  Flowers attract bees, butterflies and birds.  USDA Zones: 5-8.  Mature size: 30′(H) / (W).  Propagate by seeds, cuttings or grafting.   Excellent for cut flower!

細齒櫻/藏櫻花是落葉喬木,適合中大型花園.   有著獨特美麗的紅銅色樹皮,冬天也好看!  清新嬌美的白色單瓣小花於春天盛開.  非常容易栽種.  最好栽種在全日照到半日照處.  花吸引蜂蝶與鳥類.  耐寒不耐熱.  成熟株高可達30呎高/寬幅.  繁殖方式以種子,扦插或嫁接方式來進行.  很適合切花!

Japanese Wisteria ‘Shiro Noda’ (Wisteria floribunda) cam be propagated by cuttings.  This is how they look like when I got them.  日本白花紫藤可以枝條來扦插繁殖. 這是剛來才扦插的樣子.

White flower form Japanese wisteria vine.  Very hardy and easy to grow.  Best growing in full sun to partial shade location.  Mid spring to early summer with nice long fragrant white flowers.  Flowers attract bees and butterflies.     Propagate by seeds, cuttings, air layering or grafting.  USDA Zones:5-10. Mature size:30′-40′(H)/(L). But it can be trained as tree form for free standing.

*I am hoping to graft the shoots from white flower form to reblooming Wisteria plant.  In theory the white flower form shoots will flower once every season except winter.   But it is too cold to do so in winter…  I also germinated reblooming Wisteria seeds but their fragile stem are not woody enough to graft, perhaps in late spring or summer if these cuttings still alive to do so.  It will be better to root soon, of course.   Either way, it will be very interesting experiment!  Many thanks to my gardening friends’ help!  🙂

白花種的日本紫藤.  非常強健易於栽種.  最好栽種於全日照到半日照處.  仲春到初夏開花序蠻長流瀉而下的白色花串,優雅而清香.  花頗吸引蜂蝶.  以種子,枝條扦插,壓條或嫁接的方式來繁殖.  喜冷耐熱.  成熟株高30-40呎高/長.  但可以修剪來控制植株的大小或訓練成樹型.

*我是要來實驗將白花的紫藤芽嫁在續開紫藤上面,看這樣是否能借續開型除了冬季外每季開一次的好處,但這實驗由於季節不對,要等這些扦插枝條熬到春天能接時再說.  我也孵出了續開型紫藤的種子但枝芽太細尚未達木質化階段,嫁接困難.  所以也是得等到春天才行.  這會是個有趣的實驗!  在此感謝花友們的幫助!  🙂

Japanese barberry(Berberis thunbergii) is covered by early winter snow. 初冬覆雪的日本小檗

Very hardy prickly shrub.  Deciduous.  It prefers full sun to partial shade location.  Small yellow or white flowers in late spring and fruit turn red in late summer.   Burgundy purple foliage turn vibrant red in fall with ripe red berries.  It requires pruning at least once a year.   Low maintenance enough for hedge to prevent wild animals like deer or rabbits.   USDA Zones:3-10.  Mature size is vary according to the varieties.  Propagate by seeds, cuttings, dividing root ball or grafting.   Some states in U. S. is illegal to grow this plant.

又名紅葉小檗、紫葉小檗. 非常強健多刺的灌木.  會落葉. 喜全日照到半日照處. 春末開黃色或白色小花,果實於夏末成熟後轉紅.  秋天葉色由紫紅或暗紅轉較鮮紅,配著成熟的紅色果實有相當的觀賞價值. 一年至少需要修剪一次.  算是低維護的綠籬可當拒馬保護野鹿或野兔類可能對花園/菜園的破壞.  非常耐寒.  成熟株高及寬幅依品種不同有異.  繁殖用種子,扦插或分株為主.   要注意的是在美國部份州種植此灌木是不合法的.
