This is a hardy, evergreen, low maintenance shrub.  It is easy to grow in full sun to partial shade location.  Some varieties actually tolerant shade location.   The female plant branches with glossy dark green leaves and bright red berries are excellent for cut flower, especially before end of the year for Christmas decoration, flower arrangement and outdoor winter planters!  🙂   In late spring to early summer they have many tiny white flowers in clusters and later on in fall green fruit turn ripe become bright red berries.  Flowers attract bees to pollinate.   Parts of plant are toxic, do not ingest the plant.

Usually been propagated by soft wood cuttings or by seeds.  Very winter hardy.  USDA Zones:3-7.   Even though it could grow to 6′-8′(H) X 6′-10′(W) but with pruning often for cut flower purpose, I do not think it can be a problem for a small to medium garden.    If you have a small garden, get a grafted plant — a female plant with male branches to ensure pollination for berries.  A male plant can pollinate 5-8 near by female plants.

冬青是很強健,常綠,低維護的灌木.  容易栽種在全日照到半日照處.  有幾種冬青對於稍暗的環境也能容忍.  雌株的枝條亮面的深綠色葉色加上紅豔的果實是插花的絕佳花材,特別是年終前的聖誕節裝飾用物,插花及戶外用於裝飾的冬天插花!  🙂  春末開小巧成簇的小白花,秋末時果實由綠轉紅.   花吸引蜂類授粉.  冬青的植物成份有毒不可食.

繁殖方式為新枝扦插,嫁接,高壓或種子播種.  非常耐寒.   雖然成熟植株可達6-8呎高,寬幅為6-10呎.  若是常修剪來做切花,就很容易控制植株大小並使植株多分株.  我覺得對於小型到中型的花園是很好的選擇.  小型的花園可以選擇母株上有嫁接公株的枝條以達成授粉結果的目的.  一株公株可以幫5-8株母株授粉結果.
