庭菖蒲, 鳶尾科, 為北美原生多年生草本植物,容易栽種,全日照或半日照,喜溫暖,但不耐高溫,台灣適合高冷地栽培. 葉片細長像小草. 桃園長庚分院好像已有種植. 多以分株或種子來繁殖. 因為植株去年新買的所以這是第一次實際開花. 成熟植株高度約25cm高x40cm寬幅.

Zone 5! They are the ones I really want! In the past, I have only seen the tropical ones (Zone 9) selling in the nurseies and garden centres. This year I decide to grow from seeds. After one month sitting in the freezer and then plant them in the supermarket mushroom container with some soil, I then place whole thing in a clear plastic bag. Daytime put near heat register so it is quite warm, put them in the fridge to keep cool at night before I go to sleep. They are in and out of my fridge for 2 weeks now, I saw the first sprout (the pink one)today!

一般園藝店賣的都不耐寒. 除了秋末要整大盆搬進屋渡過漫長的冬天外就是當一年生的將它賜死,因為植株不便宜所以今年看到這耐寒品系就決定來孵種子了!

冰箱冷凍了一個月後拿出來種在洋菇盒裡的淺土,再用透明塑膠袋紮起來放在溫暖的地方. 睡前再整包冰進冰箱冷藏. 早上再拿出來. 如此2周就可發芽,今天已有一顆有芽了!

雖是園藝觀賞種,但果實依然可食用.–就是不知是否好吃?

為北美原生的多年生豆科植物,成熟植株高度為3-4呎,寬幅約為2.5-3呎.  需全日照,耐寒耐旱沒有什麼病蟲害,非常容易栽種,可用分株,走莖或種子繁殖.  壽命很長,由於根系深而密且集中,所以一般不喜歡被移植.  花像羽扇豆般成長串,可做切花,容易結籽. 但從種子到開花可能要3年時間.  有毒請勿食用. 於春末夏初開花,花色有藍,紫,白,黃等色.  花謝後結膨大豆莢般的子莢,於秋末轉黑褐色即可收成.  圖為鄰居花友的母株,最近才將受贈的種子泡溫水孵種子中,一部份直播於前院,不知道要幾天可發芽?

2012-11-12 今天發現種子已經開始出芽了,也還好,我是先用溫熱的水連泡3天,然後移種子到淺缽孵到發芽大約7個禮拜的時間,也不難孵.發芽率因為種子新鮮還蠻高的!  很期待開花的一天.

Thanks to gardener Connie for sharing her seeds from her front yard plant (see the pictures).  These pictures has been taken this June when it was blooming nicely!   I hope I can grow them next spring.   I have sown some seeds directly in the garden and soaked the rest in warm water to germinate them indoor.  I will post the progress pictures in the future — hopfully I will have some sucess!

2012-11-12 Today I have noticed the seed germination, I presoaked seed in warm water for 3 days then placed them in soil to keep moist.  Total about 7 weeks.  It is not difficult.  Looking for the day it flowers!

After 3 dayd presoaked in warm water then plant them seperatly, about 7-8weeks germination, they sprout and grow!經過連3天泡溫水再分開一顆一顆種經過7-8周就發芽並開始長子葉了!

鈴蘭 Lily-of-the-valley (Convallaria majalis)

多年生球根花卉,非常耐寒,多以分株或種子繁殖,土壤不拘,一般而言光照不拘,但以全日照或半日照為佳. 弱光處也能成活但花莖會減少.  北美的花園幾乎都有它.  簡直是和西伯利亞海蔥一樣為"雜草級"的球根花卉,春天4-5月成熟的球會先抽出含花莖的葉片開始開花時會續長其它葉片,未成熟到可開花的球應多給磷肥養球以刺激來年開花.  若種植的環境氣候較溫暖而不開花建議秋末冬初時將較大的球挖起保濕然後冰箱冷藏2-3個月"冬眠"即可.  此植物耐旱,故排水要不錯.

目前除常見的白花種外,另有粉紅色花和斑葉白花種等品種,但仍以原生種的生命力為最強,繁殖最快.

How to Grow Lily of the Valley

These seeds must be cold stratified. Check out the Making Winter page. Wet a paper towel, wring out, sow seeds in towel, fold, and put in baggie in fridge for 4-8 weeks. Some people freeze the seeds (I have never tried this, but recently I have come across much info that says freezing seeds increases the length of viability). Take seeds out and sow, barely covering. Cold-stratified seeds germinate better when they get light. Or just plant outside in fall. This seed is a good candidate for the soaking method – soak seeds in cold water in the fridge for two weeks, changing for fresh water daily. Take out and plant. These seeds don’t have any Mercury speediness in their growth – they can take 2 months or more to germinate. Grow them in a pot and give them winter protection the first year, then put them in the ground in rich, moist soil and shade or dappled shade. They won’t bloom if they get too much sun or are too dry, but they can grow in heavy clay and full shade. They are hardy to zone 6 (-10F/-20C) and are rabbit-proof. They spread by creeping rhizomes and sometimes can be invasive. Once they are established, divide them in September. General growing info Top

如何種植鈴蘭種子

種子要冷層積.
用紙巾加水打濕後把種子放上後折起裝入夾鍊袋後再加上一些水(要有濕到會滴水的程度)封好,平放在冰箱蔬果貯藏區約1-2個月.
時間到後取出播於盆土,蓋淺淺的土就好. 種植處須半日照或散光處. 土壤不拘但必須排水良好+保濕良好.
繼續保濕到發芽長葉為止,約2個月.
