Outside of my front yard window, there are some goldfinches feeding on Cosmos seeds.
–The Goldfinch is a small North American bird in the finch family. It is migratory song bird. It feeds on seeds.
They are very shy. Cosmos are self-seeded annuals, I grow them for these birds to feed on.

I will plant Comos for them next year.. I know that I have seen them here in Oregon. I even put seed out for them but they showed no interest in it..
Of course they will pick fresh seeds over those seeds we bought for bird feeder… Planting cosmos is effortless, anyways! 🙂

I may be the only person in Maine who doesn’t successfully grow cosmos so seeds have to do for the birds.
Perhaps your winter there is too cold? You can try to collect some seeds and sprinkle seeds in late spring and they will grow for sure. When seeds store in cold region the warm spell sometimes will trigger seeds to spout but then when it is cold again, they died.
Lovely pics, they are wonderful little birds, they also feed on the seeds of the Thistle plants here in Ireland.
