June Irises (Iris) 六月的鳶尾

Stunning in elegance! So colorful and easy to grow, you can see many gardeners enjoy them so much. Always in full sun location, well-drained soil. Easy to propagate by its rhizomes, bulbs or seeds.

Iris this genus has many different species, also even in same species has many different varieties. Some have rhizomes, some have bulbs, some are tall, some are rather dwarf. When you use fertilizer, do not use high in phosphate if necessary–otherwise it will make flowers too big and heavy and you will have to stake them.

If you are going to get Irises for your garden, you should consider to get re-blooming Irises. They have many varieties to pick from and they bloom at least twice to four times a year!

如果你要買鳶尾來種最好考慮買續開的鳶尾品種來種,品種花色有不少可以選擇且一年可開2到4次.

Thank you so much. I have planted my first this spring but you have made me realise that they may not be in a sunny enough spot!

You are welcome! If they are not in full sun location, they will live but will not flower. I hope you did buy the re-blooming varieties. The re-blooming varieties is very popular now, they at least bloom once in spring and once in fall, some even bloom 4 times a year! It is worthy to take more time and money to buy those for sure!

  This was my first attempt, so if they fail, I will make sure that I try again in a better location, with more sun. It is so wet here in the winter, so that is another eason that they may nor be happy.
  I have bought a black iris called “Night Owl", I do so love black flowers.
  I bought another Iris the other day which the lady I bought it from said was easier to grow and did not mind some shade. I can not remember what it is called, but it was smaller that the big Iris and had two flower heads on each stem. It is a beautiful blue.

  I have seen Iris ‘Night Owl’, it is a beautiful Iris. I do not trust what nurseries staff’s words because they just want to make a sale. I have experimented my own many species of Irises and result is all the same.– Not enough sun, no flower. 😦 But I do wish you luck! 🙂
