I need to do this too!!
It is fun! 🙂
Everything looks wonderful! I’m inspired to get things growing around here!
Some plants are so easy to propagate by seeds, some are faster and easier from stem cuttings, layering and dividing the mature plants. It is always fun to do this especially in cold winter! 🙂
How hard is the Christmas rose to grow from seed? I’ve been watching for seedlings and haven’t found any yet.
It is not hard at all. It usually takes about 2 months to sprout then slowly the seedling start to grow green leaves. Put seeds on a small pot with moist but not saggy soil and keep the pot in a clear re-sealable plastic bag, place the bag somewhere warm and partial shade. Wait for them to sprout, transplant the sprouted seeds to plant in small pots individually.
The 3rd year these young plants might start to flower. The plant will grow bigger and bigger with more flowers every year!
I found some seedlings in summer near parent plant, from the seeds I sprinkled (I usually collect half for winter growing and sprinkle half right away).
To Christmas rose, It is easier and faster to divide the mature plant. But you can hybrid different varieties together and then grow seeds to see what new plants their flowers going to be? It will take few years but it is fun!
There is something so satisfying about growing a plant from its seed. It’s always a slow process but gardening is the slowest of the performing arts.
Yes, I think so! 🙂
